Philadelphia Is the Best City for Sports Fans in America

If you love sports, there are a few cities across the country that can meet your need for a variety of games. Philadelphia is one of those cities, with many home teams to cheer for. If you just moved to the area, and you are a sports fan, there are plenty of options for enjoying games in Philly.

Depending on the season, you can catch a variety of games almost year round. Consider your favorite sports and what you want to see when you plan your game day. You can also plan for some tailgating or grab some food or drinks before or at the game to have a really great time. Here is your sports fan’s guide to living in Philadelphia: 

Football

You can’t think about Philadelphia sports without thinking of the Eagles of the NFL. The Eagles play at Lincoln Financial Field from September through January, so if you want to see an exciting game in the fall or winter months, be sure to grab some Eagles tickets. The Eagles have appeared in four Super Bowl games, with their most recent win in 2018 and their most recent appearance in 2023.

If you prefer to stay warm when you watch football, you can check out Philadelphia’s arena football team. The Philadelphia Soul play from January through May at the Wells Fargo Center.

Baseball

If you prefer spring and summer sports and want to be outside watching a game during warmer weather, Philadelphia has you covered with baseball. Another of the well known Philly teams is the Philadelphia Phillies. The Phillies have played at Citizens Bank Park since 2004, and the baseball season runs from April to October. So you can enjoy baseball from spring through the fall. The Phillies have been to the World Series numerous times with wins in 1980 and 2008.

If you want to travel a little outside of Philly, you can catch a minor league Baseball game in Camden, New Jersey. The Camden River Sharks of the Atlantic League play at Campbell’s Field April through September.

Basketball

Well-known Philly teams continue into basketball season with the Philadelphia 76ers. Pro basketball season runs from November through April, and during this time, you can catch a 76ers game at the Wells Fargo Center. 

Philly is also home to the famous college “Big 5” basketball teams from: Temple, Villanova, LaSalle, St. Joseph’s, and the University of Pennsylvania. You can catch collegiate Big 5 games from December through March.

Hockey

Any guide to Philly sports would be incomplete without mentioning hockey. The city is home to the Philadelphia Flyers who play at the Wells Fargo Center. You can catch NHL games featuring the Flyers from October through April.

Philly is a city known for its die hard sports fans. If you already live in the city, you are probably familiar with the types of dedicated sports fans that live in the city. If you don’t live in the city, but love Philly sports, get looking at Philadelphia houses for sale near your favorite team’s home field or arena so you can catch all the home games.
